Denimologie gets Sassy!

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of being a part of a very fashionable event, Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash. Set in the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA, the 2nd floor was consumed with retailers, jewelers, and clothing lines. We were there, and also previewed our new in-house jewelry line, Love is a Devil. There was a hip DJ, alcohol, and great finds, along with awesome deals. To find out about the next event, go to www.sassycitychicks.com.

Sharie and Alana's new jewelry line! Love is a Devil

Love is a Devil...well that's what Shakespeare once said, but he was very right! In other words, love is a bitch, but with all the bad, the good in the end is worth it all. Sharie's passion for accessories has finally caught up with her, and yet again, we are venturing into another business, but as designers this time. This line is still unofficial, but the positive response from friends and family has been overwhelming. Sharie and Alana took their line to a very fashionable shopping party, Sassy City Chicks, in LA last week, and left a lasting impression with style bloggers. Stay tuned, as this we both feel this is going to be an exciting journey we never thought we would be on, but we're happy to be on the ride! Love is a Devil are one of a kind, handmade, hand strung, ultra cool statement pieces. We combine exaggerated pearls, crystals and chains to create a romantic, yet edgy look. Available for purchase soon, but until we get an official website, please become a facebook fan to get regular updates and to check out our cool statement pieces as they are made!

How to Wear: Lust in green

Skinny Minnie....

We can't emphasize enough that skinny jeans are a staple! A few years back, when the 80's tapered skinny made its way to the market again, so many women were turned off by this cut. Now, this trend is no longer a fad, but has quickly become an everlasting style. We feature skinnies so much because it's forever versatile, and contrary to belief, anyone can pull off the look if they follow this one rule, your shirt should always hit on your most flattering area. For instance, if you were blessed with more cushion on your backside, wear a long top that will hit on the thinnest part of the thigh, while covering your bottom at the same time. Trust us, you won't get the evil looks your way, rather, you might get complimented on how slimmer you look! This week, I played with a fun top with dolman sleeves (Nasty Gal) , some short topped combats (SOOOOO hot for fall, leave unlaced!)(Nasty Gal), a fun statement necklace (Love is a Devil, available soon), and of course, a great studded bag (Polished, available soon). Doesn't it feel great to look ultra cute and comfy at the same time? Now go get some skinnies in your closet, quickly!

How to Wear: Calypso Vandal

Rocker Chic....

Everyone loves a tough rocker babe! This week, we have picked yet another hit from Serfontaine, the Calypso Vandal. The peek-a-boo fishnet under the rips adds that edge that makes this jean so unique and a hit with our customers. We love this jean for the fit and the WOW factor it achieves...this jean really speaks for itself and doesn't need much paired with it, but I can't help but get a little carried away with a little leather and studs! The leather jacket is the answer with the ruffle detail that adds just a touch of femininity. The booties make this look even sexier (I'd do the leopard)! Get empowered in this look with a lots of edge that might just be too much for him to handle!

How to Wear: Gummy Gwenevere

Shearling Darling.....

The Gummy Gwenevere will be your go-to skinny all year long. This "jegging" hugs every curve in your body without feeling restricted. This jean can be pulled with any look, think ballet flats with an over sized knit sweater, but this week we paired it with some soft shearling and my fave, studs! I love this jacket in this cognac color, which pops against the dark blue denim wash, and the boots add a vintage element with a clog heel and a hint of shearling coated inside the sole for a warm fuzzy feeling. Get taken away this fall with shearling elements and a twist of ruggedness!

How to Wear: Celine 05

It's In the Heel!

I'm a shoe lover...but I won't sacrifice comfort when it comes to my feet. After a weekend with the girls, and many sore calfs and blisters later, I felt I had to share my love for wedges, platforms and stacked heels. All these styles are edgy chic, in the moment, and actually comfy! It can be pulled off with any pant, really, but I really love them with a straight leg, like these Rock Revivals Celine 05. The fit, the details and the wash of the jean paired with edgy shoes make this a go to style for day or night, minus the sore feet!

Channeling a Look

I was reading through my Instyle mag like I always do every month. I suddenly stumbled across a new ad by Seven for all Mankind (1st pict)...and my head did a double take! "Hmmmm"...I thought to myself, "this look is oddly familiar!?" Then quickly, I remembered....I created a very similar look back in April when we created our look book (2nd pict)....

Laney fell in love with faux fur last fall and apparently, it's popping up everywhere this season. Faux fur is the epitome of glam, and I love the fact that it can in turn be edgy.....Our look was paired with Serfontaine's Snakebite, a personal fav of mine.

Serfontaine is an edgy, euro inspired line. They are way ahead of the game in terms of style. Last fall, we loaded up on tons of their styles with zipper infused details. With this season inspired by post apocalyptic and military feel, many of Serfontaine's styles are sure to hit the mark.

So hopefully, you've discovered two things, Denimologie is ahead of the trends and our stylist/buyer Laney knows what she's doing! So continue to be inspired with our variety and style picks. And also remember, you wear the trends, don't let them wear you!

Whether you want to do the military look or pair with a sweater and flats, the Zip Peg is your answer.
With a striking ankle zipper that goes to the knee, you will turn heads!

How to Wear: Bellbottom

Flashback Baby....

Fashion has it's way of making a comeback, and with this hot fall look, that statement is easily evident. As the straights get straighter (thanks to jeggings), the flare jean has taken a new level. Think big flowy bottom with easy movement, and a fit through the leg that makes it effortlessly chic. If you are blessed with long stems, this look was made for you. It can be pulled off with delicate flats and a fitted blazer, or if you come a little short, try this look with a sky high clog! To emphasize the high waist, belt it with a classic button up.

Kick off the Fall season in our current obsession! The flowing bell bottom!

As versatile as it gets, the Bell bottom looks great with flip flops or killer wedges.

What Makes Premium Denim Premium??

During these trying economic times it is difficult to make expensive purchases without weighing the financial pros and cons. Is it worth it to pay for premium denim when you can, usually, buy less expensive jeans just about anywhere?

That is a question that anyone contemplating buying a pair has to answer individually, based on their personal financial situation and their priorities. I, of course, will happily offer my two cents on the matter.

Premium Denim and Regular Denim: Is there Really A Difference?

The answer is a resounding Yes! Having owned a premium denim boutique I can attest to the fact that there is are differences between premium denim and regular denim jeans. Here is a concise list of the differences.

Superior Material- most premium denim is made from superior more expensive, denim usually made in Japan, Italy or the United States.

Superior Styling- The makers of premium denim have the styling down to a science. There is nothing arbitrary about the pocket placement or washes that they use on every pair of jeans and it shows when you put them on. properly placed pockets can give the illusion of a rounder perkier butt without surgery. What can be better than that? Darker coloring around the thighs appears to shave inches off of you in all the right places. How much would you pay for that? Premium jeans are also often hand distressed and treated to get the desired unique look that many premium jeans have.

Superior Fit- The combination of flawless material and the scientific styling come together to create a more perfect fitting jean. When it comes to jeans, fit is everything and I have yet to come across a pair of regular jeans that fit me as well as my premium jeans do.

Confidence "Boostability" - Confidence usually comes from within but a few outward things like a great hairstyle and an amazing outfit can help to boost your confidence even more. Premium jeans definitely have confidence "boostability".

Saved by the Bell!

So, we are kinda obsessed with these bellbottoms by 7 For All Mankind and apparently, so is Katie Holmes. As Us Weekly reports, these bellbottoms are a hot trend this fall, and we will happily oblige! We know we've seen this look before, more than once in the past few decades, but as that saying goes, things change but still remain the same! And as the fashion world knows it, that is exactly how fashion evolves.

This doesn't mean to lay your skinny jeans to rest! That is still a hot look too! Remember, certain trends aren't for everyone....embrace what's you!
The bell is so sleek with a blazer and killer heels....the length should hit right on the floor. Also try with a classic button up tucked in with a slim leather belt and heeled oxfords. This is a classic and chic look that will always make you look put together.

Cut...It...Out!

I personally find it hard to find shorts that fit the way I like them....so when I've had the final straw in searching for the right pair, I go through my closet and find some jeans that are old and dusty....and then take the scissors to them! If you have jeans that are too big or get baggy in the butt, those are the best ones to cut!! Here's some tips on getting them right:

1. Always cut a little longer than where you want them to hit, to allow for some fraying.
2. Always cut at an angle, start the cut from the outside and work your way in going a little longer (towards the zipper).
3. Wash after you cut to get the perfect fraying and hang dry! If you want to wear them immediately because you decided to cut on a whim, take the sharp end of scissors and rub excessively until you get the fray you want.

And VOLIA!!! You have your very own custom shorts that fit to your liking! Happy cutting!
